EXPERIENCE
Dedicated drummer and private educator, Simon Riley has inspired thousands of people with his passion based content and has TAUGHT OVER 2,000 IN PERSON and ONLINE LESSONS that range from very beginner to advanced. With a background of 8.5 YEARS serving in the UNITED STATES NAVY, his leadership, dedication, and attention to detail make him not only a highly sought after instructor, but a mentor as well. Having graduated with a BFA in MUSIC PRODUCTION from the Academy of Art University, based in San Francisco, his formal training pairs with over 20 YEARS of EXPERIENCE behind the kit. Evoking passion and inspiration into every lesson, video, and performance, he understands both the emotional and logical routes that lead to ultimate SUCCESS.
WHAT I TEACH
How we perceive anything in life will greatly affect the outcome by which we are ultimately trying to express ourselves through. Playing the drums is no different. We are expressing ourselves through means, not only native to the physical- but to the mental and emotional as well. Being in the right head space can unlock complex objectives and bond both PHYSICALITY and ultimate EXPRESSIVE FREEDOM.
Beyond the technical approaches of RUDIMENTS, SUBDIVISIONS, PLAYING TECHNIQUES, and COMPLETE DRUMSET INTRODUCTION and OVERVIEW, I go over many TOOLS and CONCEPTS that will bring any drummer to a place with more depth, dimension, and nuance inside of their playing. These include topics like MUSICALITY, TOUCH, and DYNAMICS along with the importance of your musical “diet”, practice regime, and environment.
MY MESSAGE
You don’t have to know your path in life. You don’t have to do everything right.
The rules may get broken.
You may let yourself down.
But by learning from your failures and recognizing your success you begin to start knowing your worth. You start to trust your intuition and learn how to stand out with subtlety.
